Public transportation ... an interesting bus
1950's vintage American Cars
A particularly nice old car
El Museo de la revolucion
Muckojumbys entertaining a crowd
A pleasant scene in downtown Havana
Clearly the bus is very popular. A primary role of the attendants shown here is to help "tuck" everyone inside the bus so they can close the doors. Kind of like the subway attendants in Tokyo.
This could be a picture from 1957 Florida. Fidel took over January 1, 1959. Apparently Cuba hasn't imported an American car since then but Cubanos have taken great care of their old cars. My best guess ... from the left 1956 Buick, 1956 Edsel, 1956 Oldsmobile, 1957 Chevrolet station wagon.
I'm thinking 55 Chevy, 50 something Willys and Chevrolet truck, 54 Buick, 55 Chevy and 50 something Studebaker
This car had been modified to the extent that I couldn't tell what it was. It was in excellent condition.
We encountered this lady on one of the busy pedestrian-only streets in downtown Havana. I think she has a cool, sort of knowing smile. Una Mona Lisa Cubana?
Exhibits in this museum document the incredibly volatile military-political scene that was Cuba during the first half of the 20th century.
This was the coolest taxi cab that we've seen.
El Floridita was one of papa Hemingway's favorites in Havana
The mural inside the bar is a very cool scene of El Moro castle overlooking the entrance to Havana harbor
In spite of the spartan lifestyle most Cubanos live, we encountered street musicians and entertainers and people generally enjoying themselves.
Tourism is a significant industry in Cuba. Havana and neighboring beach resorts are popular destinations for Canadians and Germans. We also met a few Americans there.
